Senior officials from the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) announced on Wednesday that Goa has achieved 100 percent coverage with both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine among adults and that the vaccine will be included in routine vaccination programs and administered once a week at government-run centers.
“All of the individuals in Goa have been immunized to the fullest extent possible.” We set a population goal of 11.66 lakh, and as of today, we’ve reached 100.058 percent of that goal. The Covid vaccination program will now be incorporated into our regular vaccine schedule. Swabbing and testing will, however, continue on all days. “Covid vaccination clinics will close, but the vaccine will be available at our standard vaccination centers,” stated DHS Director Dr. Ira Almeida.
“Hats off to team DHS Goa and GMC for accomplishing the target of both doses of Covid Vaccination for adults above the age of 18 years in the state of Goa,” Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted. Their persistent support and dedication to our aim of reaching 100% immunization have been wonderful.”
100% vaccination was in accordance with Centre’s aim
According to state vaccination officer Dr. Rajendra Borkar, 100 percent vaccination was obtained in accordance with the Union health ministry’s aim. “People will still come for the first dose, and some will come for the second dose, but that’s only because when we say 100 percent, we’re talking about a statistic.” However, some people from other states must have come, and some people from our state must have left, so at least for the time being, a number (of people) will continue to come (for vaccination). “The number of people who come for the initial dose has drastically decreased recently,” he stated.
“We still have people who aren’t vaccinated, notably the elderly and those with comorbidities, as well as those who don’t want to get vaccinated,” Almeida added. As a result, we encourage them to come forward and receive the vaccine. Because there are a few people that visit the state during the tourism season, and we have people coming in and out of the state, we were able to accomplish 100%. We have now achieved 100% immunization of the figure assigned to us by the health ministry (11.66 lakh).”
Borkar stated that vaccination will now be available once a week at all outlying health centers for those who have not yet been immunized. “Vaccines come in vials of 10 or 20 doses. As a result, if we keep all of the centers operational, there will be a lot of vaccine waste. “From tomorrow onwards, we will continue to have vaccinations in all peripheral health clinics across Goa, but only on standard vaccination days,” Borkar said.
He asked individuals who had not received the vaccination to come in groups so that the vaccine would not be wasted. ” The vaccine’s supply and delivery are guaranteed. “Vaccination centers are closed, so there’s no reason to be concerned,” Borkar added. Borkar stressed that the state’s 40 government-run vaccination clinics will not close, but will instead operate once a week as they do for other immunization programs.
Almeida also stated that the Department of Health and Human Services was considering closing Covid facilities in the suburbs. In the state, Covid instances were on the decline. Goa reported 118 new cases on Wednesday, with a 4.33 percent test positivity rate and five deaths. There were 1,608 active cases. Goa obtains a perfect score of 100. Adults should be vaccinated against Covid-19.
