Ambulifts are now available at 14 AAI airports to assist passengers with limited mobility

Ambulifts: Under the government of India’s Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), 14 AAI airports now have Ambulifts to help passengers with limited mobility. AAI has bought 20 ambulifts for airports that have scheduled flight operations of Code C & other advanced level aircraft but do not have aerobridge facilities to assist passengers with impaired mobility, Divyang passenger on wheelchairs, and passengers on stretchers. Under the ‘Make in India’ program, the Ambulift was designed and built in India.

Ambulifts at 14 airports

The facility is currently operational at 14 airports, including Dehradun, Gorakhpur, Patna, Bagdogra, Darbhanga, Imphal, Vijayawada, Port Blair, Jodhpur, Belgaum, Silchar, Jharsuguda, Rajkot, Hubli, and the remaining six are expected to be operational by the end of this month at Dimapur, Jorhat, Leh, Jamnagar, Bhuj, and Kanpur.

Ambulifts

At any given moment, the ambulifts can accommodate six wheelchairs and two stretchers, each with an attendant, and are equipped with a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system. AAI’s program, which is part of the Government of India’s Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), would make air travel more comfortable for those with disabilities. Also, in airports where an aerobridge is not accessible, assist Divyangjan. AAI procured Ambulift at a cost of Rs. 63 lakhs per unit and is supplying it to operational airlines at its airports for a minimal token fee.

Ambulifts

The Indian government has been working to implement the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyaan’s objective of completely accessible public infrastructure, such as airports, railway stations, and public transportation networks. This new Ambulift installation at multiple AAI airports will improve Transportation System Accessibility, a key component of the Accessible India Campaign.
