Blinken calls Jaishankar to address the Ukraine humanitarian crisis

According to his spokesperson, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday to discuss regional objectives, the increasing humanitarian situation in Ukraine, and the promotion of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said the two leaders spoke: “to review regional priorities, including the worsening humanitarian situation in Ukraine and our shared efforts to promote a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific, in which the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states is respected.”

Blinken will be a 3-nation tour

On Wednesday, US Secretary concluded a three-nation tour of the Middle East and North Africa, during which he made an impassioned plea to Algeria to cut ties with Russia. “The implications of Russia’s military actions have already been felt by the countries of North Africa and the Middle East,” Mr. Blinken added.

Mr. Blinken spoke with Mr. Jaishankar over the phone last month, emphasizing the significance of a united front in condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
