China tightens measures in response to increased viral cases

COVID CASES IN CHINA: After fresh illnesses were discovered, Hong Kong reported 27,647 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, Shanghai halted schools and parks, and authorities in Beijing suspended entry to a residential area and advised the people not to leave the capital.

Despite strict travel and business restrictions, Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam warned that the territory’s surge of infections may not have peaked. At a press conference, Ms. Lam added, “We could not comfortably say that we had reached the top at this time.” “We’d prefer to adopt a cautious approach.”

China reported fresh cases but no death

In the 24 hours leading up to midnight Friday on the mainland, the ministry reported 588 new confirmed cases but no deaths. Although the number of cases is modest in comparison to other countries, officials have stated that if just one case is discovered, communities will be shut down.

The city government of Shanghai, where 22 new cases were confirmed on Saturday, declared that schools would resume online instruction. According to news sources, public attractions such as the Oriental Pearl TV tower have begun requiring visitors to present negative findings from virus tests.

Five new cases have been reported in Beijing, and a portion of the Yosemite housing complex in the northeastern district of Shunyi has been shuttered after an infection was discovered there. Residents were required to take an exam. According to the administration, the sick person discovered there had close ties to a previous case in the capital.

“Please do not leave Beijing unless absolutely necessary,” said Xu Hejian, a spokesman for the capital’s Communist Party committee. There were 134 new cases in northeastern Jilin province, where the industrial metropolis of Changchun, with a population of 9 million people, was placed on lockdown on Friday.
