Hindi should be used as a substitute for English: Amit Shah

Hindi: On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that when inhabitants of different states contact one another, they should do so in the Indian language, emphasizing that Hindi should be considered as an option to English, not as a substitute for local languages.

Mr. Shah, who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee, told members that हिन्दी now accounts for 70% of the Union Cabinet’s agenda.

PM has determined Hindi will be an official language

According to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs quoting Mr. Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has determined that Hindi will be the official language for operating the government, which will boost the language’s relevance. He stated that the moment had come to make the Official Language a significant aspect of the country’s unity and that when inhabitants of different states contact one another, it should be in the Indian language.

Mr. Shah believes that the हिन्दी should be considered as a substitute for English rather than the local language. He stated that हिन्दी will not spread unless we made it more flexible by incorporating vocabulary from various local languages.

Mr. Shah said that 22,000 Hindi teachers had been hired in the North East’s eight states. In addition, nine tribal communities in the North East have consented to convert their dialects’ scripts to Devanagari, and all eight North-East states have agreed to make Hindi mandatory in schools up to Class X. The 37th sitting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee was presided over by Mr. Shah. Bhritahari Mahtab, the Committee’s Vice-Chairman, was also present.
