India urges an end to violence in Ukraine, saying an only honest conversation can resolve problems

India expressed serious worry over the escalating situation in Ukraine and reiterated its urge for an immediate suspension of violence and an end to hostilities, stressing that only honest, sincere, and continuous discussion can resolve any differences.

Ambassador T.S. Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed a rare emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine on February 28 that New Delhi is doing everything it can to assist Indian nationals still stranded in Ukraine. “India is very concerned about the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine. Mr. Tirumurti stated, “We reaffirm our request for an immediate suspension of violence and an end to hostilities.”

India believes that Diplomacy is the only way to resolve problems

“My government is convinced that there is no other option but to return to diplomacy,” he said. “We restate our firm view that all disputes can only be overcome through honest, sincere, and prolonged communication,” Mr. Tirumurti said, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has supported this firmly in his recent conversations with the leadership of the Russian Federation and Ukraine. In Ukraine, he continued, a serious and dire humanitarian situation is unfolding.

The complex and unclear situation at border crossings, he said, is “adversely affecting” people’s ability to move freely and predictably.
