Indian Envoy will skip Winter Games Ceremony after PLA commander honored as Torchbearer

Indian envoy will skip Beijing Winter Olympics’s opening and closing ceremony after China’s controversial decision of making PLA Soldier who has been part of Galwan Valley as one of the Torchbearers of Games. The Ministry of External Affairs has announced this in their weekly briefing. The MEA spokesperson Mr. Arindam Bagchi has called this incident regrettable. Earlier, US lawmakers have also criticized China’s move and termed it shameful. The Chinese choice of making PLA Soldier who was involved in the Galwan Valley clash as torchbearer has attracted worldwide criticism.

Doordarshan has also decided to boycott the Opening and Closing ceremony along with Indian Envoy 

Soon after MEA’s announcement, Prasar Bharati’s CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati also called for a boycott of the opening and closing ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics Games 2022.

The PLA commander Qi Fabao has taken the flame from Wang Meng, a four-time Olympics short track speed skating champion for China, at Winter Olympic Park. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and around five Central Asian Presidents and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. More than a dozen of World Leaders will also attend the Opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
