New Covid-19 variants are highly possible, warns WHO

In a question and answer session, WHO (World Health Organization) warned that the possibilities of new COVID-19 variants are really high. WHO described new COVID-19 variants as the wild card and warned that Omicron will not be the last variant and many possible variants may rock the world in near future. In a live session through WHO’s social media platforms, WHO Technical Lead (COVID-19) Maria Van Kerkhove said that WHO is tracking the four different versions of Omicron.

New COVID variants are Wild Card

The Techincal Lead of WHO has described new covid variants as a wild card. While speaking in a question-answer session she said that we (WHO) know a lot about Coronavirus but still we don’t know everything about the virus. We know that COVID is mutating a lot and we are tracking it in real-time, and frankly speaking, these variants are the wild cards. She said that WHO is not only focussing on vaccination coverage but they are also taking appropriate steps to reduce the spread of the New Strain of COVID-19.

Their many strains of COVID have been designated as a matter of concern since B.1.1529 variant on November 26, 2021. These strains are being covered under the umbrella of Omicron. These lineages include BA.1, BA.1.1, BA.2 and BA.3. These are monitored under the umbrella of Omicron. BA.2 is more transmissible than BA.1.
