Without prior approval, no ‘Shobha yatra’ will be allowed: Yogi Adityanath

According to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, no ‘Shobha yatra’ or religious procession shall be carried out without prior approval. Mr. Adityanath instructed officials to take harsh measures against people making “mischievous utterances” or lawless forces attempting to destabilize the state’s climate.

“Such people have no place in a good society,” he declared during a law and order review meeting on Monday evening.

Declaration and Approval

Before granting approval, religious event organizers should sign a proclamation of peace and harmony, according to a government spokeswoman quoting Mr. Adityanath. His instructions to the police and administrative officials come only days after violence erupted in the national capital during a ‘Shobha yatra’ in the Jahangirpuri neighborhood.

The police would have to be extra attentive in the current context, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. It was reported that this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr and Akshay Tritya holidays may fall on the same day. Only traditional religious processions should be granted permission, according to the Chief Minister. He ordered officials, “Do not provide clearance to additional programs.”

He emphasized that religious festivals and pujas should take place only in approved areas, and he urged officials to guarantee that no religious event obstructs road or traffic.
