India, Russia strive to avoid sanctions

Russia: After talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday, visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia and India are looking into measures to “bypass” sanctions imposed by the US, European Union, and others. Mr. Lavrov, who arrived in Delhi a week after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, talked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before departing.

Mr. Modi’s office stated, “Prime Minister reaffirmed his plea for an immediate end of violence and underlined India’s readiness to support in any way to the peace efforts.”

India and Russia’s foreign minister discuss the concerns

Mr. Jaishankar and Mr. Lavrov specifically discussed India’s concerns about the impact of the Ukraine crisis on its economy, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), stressing that it was “essential” to keep their economic and technological relations “stable and predictable.”

“EAM [Jaishankar] emphasized that, as a developing economy, India is particularly concerned about global volatility in various fields. “It’s critical for both nations’ economic, technological, and people-to-people relations to remain stable and predictable,” the MEA said in a statement.
