The blaze in the Sariska reserve is being extinguished, and the tigers are safe

Sariska Forest Fire: On Wednesday, efforts were made to put out a major fire at Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, with two Indian Air Force aircraft joining the effort to douse the blaze by ferrying water from adjacent Siliserh Lake and spraying it over the forest. The blaze, which began on Sunday and has engulfed 10 square kilometers, is gradually shrinking.

There were no tigers in the Akbarpur forest block where the fire started, despite the fact that it is home to four adult tigers and five cubs. The tigers were safe, according to R.N. Meena, Field Director of the Tiger Reserve, and their movements were continuously watched once they relocated to the plains. There are a total of 27 tigers in the reserve.

Sariska’s situation was nearly under control

The situation was described as “nearly under control” in regions with thick, easy-to-burn dry grass, while the fire burned 600 hectares of tropical dry forest. More than 200 individuals were involved in putting out the fire, including forest personnel and villagers, and residents of villages on the outskirts of the fire-affected region were requested to flee to safety.

Mr. Meena stated that the firefighting operation will continue with the assistance of disaster relief workers and eco-development committees till the problem was completely resolved. Until Tuesday, the fire that started in the hills at Baleta Prithvipura Naka on Sunday evening had spread to the Narandi, Rotkyala, and Baheri sections within the reserve.

Because the flames were visible on Wednesday in an area with less dry grass, forest officials anticipated that the fire would be under control quickly. After heavy winds fueled the flames, two State Disaster Response Force teams were sent to the reserve, and efforts will be made later to prevent the spread of fire from half-burned stubbles at the location.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the state and federal administrations were working together to handle the situation. “To a significant measure, the fire has been brought under control… He tweeted, “It is a source of relief that no loss of life or wildlife has been reported [in Sariska].”
