BJP Suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Jindal

The BJP suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal on Sunday, as the controversy over their remarks about the Prophet erupted into a global outcry, with complaints from a wide range of Muslim countries.

In the wake of Muslim protests and harsh retaliation from nations such as Kuwait, Qatar, and Iran, the BJP issued a statement declaring that it respects all religions and vehemently condemns insults to religious figures.

In an attempt to defuse a diplomatic spat, spokespersons for the Indian embassies in Qatar and Kuwait said on Sunday that the ambassadors have met to discuss the situation “said that the tweets do not reflect the views of the Indian government in any way. These are the viewpoints of the periphery.”

On Monday, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, and Afghanistan, as well as the Maldives, joined a number of Muslim countries in condemning BJP leaders’ controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammed, emphasizing the necessity of respecting all religious beliefs.

India condemns the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)

On Monday, June 6, 2022, India slammed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for condemning two BJP politicians’ disrespectful remarks against Prophet Muhammed and Islam.

Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, called the OIC’s remarks “misleading and mischievous.” Several nations, notably India’s key Gulf partner, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as security partners Oman and Jordan, denounced the statements, prompting India’s robust response. The United Arab Emirates urged India to promote “mutual coexistence.”

Mr. Bagchi responded forcefully, saying the OIC should abandon its “community approach” and that “it is regretful that the OIC Secretariat has chosen to make motivated, deceptive, and deceitful comments again.” This just serves to highlight the organization’s divisive goal, which is being pursued at the request of vested interests.
