Yoga at World Health Day: Thousands of people participated in Yoga Utsav at the Red Fort

Yoga at World Health Day: Today, on the occasion of World Health Day, the Ministry of Ayush hosted a Yoga Utsav at the Red Fort. The celebration also marked the beginning of the 75-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga (IDY). Shri Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Many Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors from other countries, Yoga gurus, senior officials, and volunteers took part in the Common Yoga Protocol at the event (CYP).

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ayush, Ports, Shipping & Waterways; Shri G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture & DoNER; Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Forest & Climate Change; Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture; Shri Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs; Shri Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Jagadambika Pal, Rajendra Agarwal, Sunita Duggal, Mangala Suresh Angari, C Laltlanthanga, Phangnon Konyak, Topon Kumar Gogoi, Rajdeep Roy, and Horen Singh Bey were among the Members of Parliament who attended the ceremony.

Foreign dignitaries also participated in the Yoga event on World Health Day

The Yoga Utsav was attended by dignitaries and officials from many countries’ embassies and high commissions, including Sweden, Hungary, Vietnam, Madagascar, Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Togo, Peru, Kyrgyzstan, and Zimbabwe, ensuring a global presence at this ceremonial event to kick off the 75-day countdown to the 8th International Day of Yoga this year. Every year on June 21, the International Day of Yoga is observed all around the world.

“Yoga is the symbol of India’s rich cultural history,” remarked Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Om Birla as he addressed the crowd. On World Health Day, he congratulated everyone and complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing yoga to the world.”

“Today is World Health Day,” Shri Sarbananda Sonowal declared on the occasion. Yoga is a form of exercise that aims to bring the body and mind into harmony. It provides us with physical strength, mental balance, and emotional stability, allowing us to successfully tackle the challenges of modern life. This event is being held to commemorate the 75-day countdown to International Yoga Day.”

Announced to perform Yoga at 75 heritage locations on World Health Day

The Minister went on to say that the Ministry is planning Yoga performances at 75 heritage locations with major Indian branding, as well as relaying IDY programs around the world with the Sun’s movement. This is tied to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s “One Sun, One Earth” initiative, he stated.

“I am grateful to Hon’ble Speaker (Lok Sabha), Hon’ble Union Ministers, Hon’ble Members of Parliament, His Excellency Ambassadors, H. E. High Commissioners, Honourable Yog Gurus, Representatives from various Ministries, Media, Volunteers, and participants,” the Union Minister concluded. In the coming days, I ask that all stakeholders work together in Mission Mode to maximize public participation and involvement.”

In today’s blockbuster show, the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) was given a lot of attention. CYP was created with the help of specialists and includes day-to-day Yoga practice in order to gain all of the advantages of Yoga. Yoga activities such as Yoga Nidra, Pranayama, Dhyan, and others are intended to be popularised through the protocol. Each Yogic activity aids in the development of flexibility, strength, balance, and harmony. The Government of India’s Yoga Portal is a resource to assist individuals to embrace, practicing, and enjoy yoga on a daily basis. 

During the live broadcast, yoga gurus such as Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati, President, Parmarth Niketan, and Bhikkhu Sanghasena, founder, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Leh-Ladakh, offered their knowledge on the event held at World Health Day. 

Following the speeches, the experts of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga performed a live demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol under the direction of Dr. Ishwar V. Basavaraddi, Director MDNIY, in which over 3000 Yoga sadhaks performed the Common Yoga Protocol in the ambiance of the Red Fort. The program was broadcast live on the ministry of Ayush’s, MDNIY’s, and other yoga institutions’ social media sites.
