174 mobilization camps for women-centric courses were held around the country as part of the DDU-Azadi GKY’s Ka Amrit Mahotsav during Iconic Week

On March 7, 2022, as part of the Department of Rural Development’s (DoRD) Iconic Week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commemorating International Women’s Day, more than 174 ‘women centric’ mobilization camps were held across the country under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). Avsar Ki Azadi was a huge success thanks to the efforts of different State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs), State Skills Missions (SSMs), and Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs).

4281 Women candidates were mobilized

More than 4281 women candidates were successfully mobilized for enrollment in courses such as Assistant Beauty Therapist, Self Employed Tailoring, and Sample Tailoring, among others, through various similar camps held across the country. Mobilization camps are an important part of the program since they allow the program to reach out to potential applicants and tell them about the scheme’s features.

The DDU-GKY plan requires that one-third of all candidates undergoing training be female. The scheme also has a 45-year upper age limit for women candidates, despite the fact that it is aimed at rural poor youngsters aged 15 to 35.

The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a nationwide placement-linked skill training program supported by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. It was launched on September 25, 2014. (GoI). DDUGKY aims to improve the poor rural youth’s job-related abilities and position them in wage jobs in various sectors of the economy. The program is outcome-driven, with guaranteed placements for at least 70% of those who have completed the training.

The DDU-GKY program, which focuses on placements, is being implemented in 27 states and three UTs for rural disadvantaged kids. Through more than 2381 training centers, more than 871 Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs) train rural disadvantaged kids in 611 employment roles. Till January 31, 2022, a total of 11.44 lakh youth have been trained and 7.15 lakh youth have been placed.
