Three Panamanian-flagged ships have been hit by Russian missiles in the Black Sea since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month, according to Panama’s Maritime Authority. The maritime authority said in a statement that one ship sank, but no casualties were reported.
Panama claims to be hit by Russian Missiles
The other two vessels are still afloat due to the damage. “We are aware that three of our ships were attacked by Russian missiles, but the crew is unharmed; we sustained material damage,” said Noriel Arauz, administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).
The three ships involved were the Namura Queen, Lord Nelson, and the Helt. The AMP did not specify when the ships were struck. At least ten additional flag-bearer ships remain in the Black Sea, Arauz said, adding that the Russian navy has imposed travel restrictions on ships leaving the area. According to the AMP, Panama has the world’s largest registry of flagged ships, with more than 8,000 vessels.
