The Andhra Pradesh government intends to prohibit government doctors from engaging in private practice

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has voted to prohibit government doctors from practicing private medicine in the state. According to Information and Public Relations Minister Perni Venkataramaiah, the Cabinet has entrusted medical and health department officials with preparing rules and a road plan for the same (Nani). On Thursday, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy presided over a Cabinet meeting at a Secretariat.

Mr. Nani revealed the information, saying that the State administration received input from the public that the services in Andhra government hospitals might be enhanced even more if doctors’ private practices were limited.

Doctors practicing medicine were found to be close to Andhra government hospitals and working in private hospitals, which was not allowed under any circumstances. The pay and other benefits were explicitly stated in the government’s notification for filling vacancies. The doctors, who were vying for government employment, were well aware of the private sector’s wage scales. They weren’t supposed to compare after they started working for the government. He stated that the government expects them to work in accordance with the requirements.

The Andhra government aimed to improve the government’s medical and healthcare systems. Mr. Nani said a ban on the private practice was a start in the right way, adding, “We are hoping that we will be able to convince the doctors.”

Hospital land is available in Andhra

Mr. Nani went on to say that the Cabinet has approved the allocation of lands to hospitals in order to enhance the health sector. At Kallur hamlet in Kurnool, five acres of land have been set aside for a hospital with all contemporary amenities. On five acres in Kakinada Urban, a super-specialty/multi-specialty hospital would be built. Similarly, APIIC granted 4.5 acres in Vizianagaram for the Health Hub. In Anantapur, four acres were awarded, while in Srikakulam, 4.32 acres were allotted, he said.
