Anand Rai, a whistleblower in the Vyapam scandal, was arrested in Delhi by MP Police in the complaint filed by a government officer

Dr. Anand Rai, a whistleblower in the Vyapam scam, was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police in Delhi early on Friday in connection with a case filed by an officer employed at the State Chief Minister’s Secretariat, according to an official.

Last month, Laxman Singh Markam, deputy secretary at the CM secretariat, filed a complaint accusing Dr. Rai and State Congress chief spokesperson K.K. Mishra of attempting to implicate him in the alleged leak of a question paper for the MP Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET)-2022, which was held on March 25.

Anand Rai exposed Vyapam Scam in MP

The Madhya Pradesh Karmachari Chayan Aayog (Staff Selection Board), formerly known as Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal, conducted the exam (Vyapam). The name of one Laxman Singh was displayed in a claimed screenshot of the stolen question-and-answer sheet that went viral on social media. Bhopal Crime Branch Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivpal Singh Kushwaha told PTI that Rai was detained from Delhi shortly after midnight on Thursday.

He’ll be taken to Bhopal, he added. According to sources close to Dr. Rai, he traveled to Delhi to petition the Supreme Court for help in the lawsuit filed against him. Dr. Rai’s petition to have the FIR against him canceled was dismissed by the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday.

Mr. Markam has accused Dr. Anand Rai and Mr. Mishra of damaging his reputation in their complaint. The Vyapam scam was discovered in 2011. After an apex court decision in 2015, the CBI took over the investigation into the massive recruiting and admissions fraud.
