Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway to be monitored by Korean Technology

The Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway which is set to be India’s Longest expressway is going to be monitored and managed by technology shared by the Republic of Korea. The Mumbai-Nagpur super communication expressway has 701 kilometers in length. This will be the first instance where India is set to use an intelligent transportation system (ITS) on an expressway. This ITS technology is supposed to prevent accidents providing additional safety to motorists.

The Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is not only going to be the longest expressway but it is also set to be the fastest in the country as Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is going to execute this eight-lane Mumbai-Nagpur expressway in such a way that it will provide motorists to drive at the speed of 150 Km per hour. The estimated cost of this expressway is Rs. 55,000 crores.

The Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is set to become the fastest expressway as the proposed speed of this eight-lane expressway is 150 km per hour. The MSRDC officials said that the ITS system for expressway will be funded through a tied loan from EDCF (Economic Development Cooperation Fund) of the Korean Republic and the Department of Economic Affairs of Government of India. As per officials, the deal between both nations has been finalized and sooner they will have the agreement regarding the same.

The Korean consultants and system integrators have already surveyed the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway and they have sketched the plan to install the modern traffic management system on the expressway. The technology will be operated by a Korean company for the first two years and then it will be handed over to MSRDC. The technology will monitor traffic violation, vehicle detection, traffic surveillance, video incident detection, drone-based surveillance of route, tunnel management system, speed and lane enforcement, visual messaging service, lane control systems, weigh in motion, etc. As per officials, this technology will not only benefit the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway but will also benefit all other expressways being constructed and operated in Maharashtra.

MSRDC officials tunnel traffic management center will close the entrance of tunnel automatically in case of serious accident inside the tunnel. The Korean company will install all traffic management systems and all other equipment on the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway.
