Pulwama: Terrorist designation for Pulwama attack suspect Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir

Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir, a key conspirator in the 2019 terror attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, was designated a ‘terrorist’ by the MHA on Monday under UAPA. The suicide attack claimed the lives of up to 40 CRPF personnel.

Alamgir alias Mujahid Bhai, a senior member of the banned terror group JeM, is a resident of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, according to the MHA.

MHA designates Terrorist, a key conspirator in Pulwama

According to the notification, “Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir was involved in the Pulwama Central Reserve Police Force convoy attack of 2019…is involved in anti–India terror activities on behalf of Jaish–e–Mohammad.” According to the report, Alamgir is in charge of JeM’s fund collection activities from Pakistani citizens and routes the funds to Kashmir in India.

“Alamgir has been involved in facilitating Afghan cadre infiltration and coordinating terror attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir…the Central government believes Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir is involved in terrorism and should be notified as a terrorist under the said Act,” according to the notification.

The 1967 Act, as amended in 2019, gave the MHA the authority to designate people as terrorists. Previously, this provision only applied to terrorist organizations or groups, not to individuals. Terrorist designations have been given to 33 people so far.
