At a military depot in Sialkot, Pakistan, an unintentional fire causes massive explosions

A series of huge explosions were produced by an unintentional fire caused by short-circuiting at a military depot in Pakistan’s Punjab Province on March 20 morning, generating fears that the major Army post had been targeted by terrorists.

Ammo shed at Sialkot garrison, around 100 kilometers from Lahore, caught fire by mistake.

“An unintentional fire broke out in an ammunition shed near Sialkot Garrison owing to short-circuiting,” the Pakistan Army’s media branch, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement. There was no loss of life. Damages were contained as a result of the quick and effective response, and the fire was put out.” The Army provided no further information.

Sialkot military depot has massive fire and explosions

At 6 a.m., a massive fire and explosions rocked the military depot near the cantonment area, according to sources. The fire department and Rescue 1122 arrived on the scene and, according to reports, extinguished the fire after several hours. A representative for Rescue 1122 informed PTI that only the military is authorized to speak about the damage and any casualties or injuries caused by the Sialkot blasts.

The videos of the explosions and fire were shared on social media, and they quickly became a top trend in Pakistan on Twitter. A succession of explosions can be seen in the videos, as well as fire erupting.

According to a witness, the explosions were so loud that neighbors in the area mistook it for a terror attack. He described the situation as perplexing because the explosions came one after another.
