India successfully fired a naval anti-ship missile in a test

The Indian Navy successfully tested the first indigenously designed naval anti-ship missile from a Seeking chopper on May 18, according to officials. The test was carried out at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore, Odisha.

“This launch is an important step toward gaining self-reliance in specialty missile technology,” a senior Navy officer said.

The test was conducted by the Indian Navy in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Indian Navy shared a short video of the Seeking 42B helicopter firing the missile on Twitter. The new missile was successfully test-fired over a month after the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command successfully test-fired an anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

To effectively preserve India’s maritime security interests, particularly in the Indian Ocean region, the Indian Navy has been progressively improving its overall combat capacity. The ships, named INS Surat and INS Udaygiri, were launched at Mumbai’s Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL).

INS Surat is the P15B class’s fourth guided-missile destroyer, while INS Udaygiri is the P17A class’s second stealth frigate.
