PIB 1st April: Dr. S Raju has been appointed Director-General of the Geological Survey of India

Dr. S Raju, the Director-General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), was sworn in on 1st April 2022 in Kolkata. Shri R. S. Garkhal, who superannuated on March 31, 2022, is his successor. Dr. Raju was the Additional Director General and National Head, Missions III and IV at GSI HQ before taking on the current position.

Following his appointment as DG, GSI Dr. Raju stated that the Geological Survey of India is poised to continue to focus on programs of core national importance in the field of mineral resource augmentation in the country, as well as to strive for closer interactions and engagements with the mining sector, industries, and prestigious national and international academic institutes. 

To ensure GSI’s constant services and commitment to nation-building endeavors, he said, more emphasis will be placed on planned and focused R&D and operational activities, as well as the advancement of analytical facilities and field activities, for better delivery of action-oriented results, particularly in mineral exploration and the Public Good Geoscience sectors.

Dr. Raju had been directing the planning, programming, and implementation of various geoscientific projects of national importance as Additional Director General, National Heads Mission-III & IV. He has several publications in reputable national and international peer-reviewed journals on various geosciences topics.
