Washington warns of possible Russian chem-bio strikes in Ukraine

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki dismissed Russian assertions that the US had chemical and biological weapons facilities in Ukraine as “preposterous,” saying Russia might be building the environment for using such weapons in Ukraine or staging a false flag operation utilizing these outlawed tools of warfare.

“This is ridiculous.” It’s the kind of deception we’ve seen from the Russians in Ukraine and other countries over the years, all of which have been debunked, and an example of the false pretexts we’ve warned the Russians would invent,” Ms. Psaki said on Twitter, adding that the US was in compliance with the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions and did not develop or possess these weapons anywhere.

Russian President Putin had a history of using chemical weapons

Ms. Psaki said Russia had a history of using chemical weapons to poison and execute political opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing the case of Russian dissident leader Alexey Navalny as an example. Mr. Navalny was exposed to a nerve toxin in 2020, according to German lab findings, as a result of a botched assassination attempt by Mr. Putin, Mr. Navalny claimed.

Mr. Navalny, who is presently incarcerated, has urged for the war to be ended. “Russia continues to back Syria’s Assad administration, which has used chemical weapons on several occasions. Ms. Psaki added, “Russia has long maintained a biological weapons program in defiance of international law.”

“Now that Russia has made these fraudulent allegations, and China appears to be endorsing it, we should all be on the lookout for Russia to deploy chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine, or to stage a false flag operation using them.” Ms. Psaki stated, “It’s a definite trend.”

The White House has issued a forewarning about the second batch of Ukraine-related incidents in recent weeks. Just days before Russia’s war on Ukraine began on February 24, US officials, including President Joe Biden, stated they were “convinced” Mr. Putin was about to strike Ukraine.
