Karnataka Chief Minister: Schools in Karnataka to resume February 14

From tomorrow, February 14, 2022, schools up to class 10 will reopen for physical education, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated in Hubli. However, all secondary schools and institutions would remain closed for the time being.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that he has directed district commissioners, superintendents of police, and school administrations to convene a peace committee. Throughout the state, high schools have been closed due to the ongoing Hijab debate. However, CM Bommai is confident that as schools reopen in stages beginning tomorrow, the state will return to normalcy.

“All high schools up to and including class 10 will return tomorrow, and all districts’ Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and Deputy Directors of Public Instruction have been requested to convene peace sessions including parents and teachers at key schools to foster a pleasant climate. “I am optimistic that schools will continue to operate in a peaceful manner,” Bommai stated.

Chief Minister to conduct a review meeting

He has also requested that the education ministries produce a report on the status of reopening upper classes/pre-university and degree colleges. A review meeting will be conducted to discuss the reopening of higher classes and degree colleges based on the experts’ assessment.

Meanwhile, the state government has prolonged the closure of educational institutions until February 16 for universities under the Department of Higher Education and colleges under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE).
