The Supreme Court Collegium recommends that five judges be appointed as Chief Justices

On May 17, the Supreme Court Collegium suggested that five judges from various high courts be elevated to the position of Chief Justice. It also proposed that a Chief Justice be transferred.

The collegium recommended that Justice Vipin Sanghi of the Delhi High Court be appointed Chief Justice of Uttarakhand. It also proposed that two Bombay High Court justices, Justices Amjad A. Sayed and S.S. Shinde, be appointed Chief Justices of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, respectively. Rashmin M. Chhaya, a Gujarat High Court judge, was recommended for elevation as Gauhati Chief Justice by the collegium.

Supreme Court-appointed CJ of Telangana

Judge Ujjal Bhuyan of the Telangana High Court has been proposed for Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. Justice Bhuyan’s parent High Court is Gauhati. 

In addition, Telangana Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has been recommended for transfer to the Delhi High Court. Justices U.U. Lalit, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud, and L. Nageswara Rao are members of the Supreme Court Collegium, which is led by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana.
